    Abstract

Electro Discharge machining is non-force machining process to machine advanced materials, which erodes away material using a consecutive series of electric sparks at short interval. The said process has been admitted worldwide as a unique method in industry of manufacturing to produce forging dies, die castings and other such components used in manufacturing process. EDM is one of the most important methods being used currently for successful machining of advanced materials of modern era. Modern industrial technology has helped in the use of advanced materials such as composites, ceramics and super alloys. Aluminium Metal matrix composites are one of the important types of Metal matrix composite (MMC) being used for maximum products due to its availability and cost effectiveness. AMMC has found a vast range of application in the automobile industries, and defense due to better and multiple functional characteristics like good thermal conductivity, low density, greater wear resistance, more specific strength and stiffness. The recent research works going on in this field have also been discussed in this paper to give more visibility and viability to the proposed work.
